Shells are dried and screened at origin, stored under cover, and sampled at loading. Moisture is specified on an as-received basis and verified in the certificate of analysis.
Gross calorific value includes the latent heat of water vapour in the flue gas; net calorific value excludes it. Boiler efficiency calculations usually use NCV on an as-received basis.
